Footprints on the Way to Our College

Nursing leaders in critical care nursing present in the kick-off ceremony of the temporary office for the Hong Kong Academy of Nursing (HKAN) Preparatory Committee at PMH in June 2008.

In April 2009, a group of ICU nurses met the Fullbright Scholar Prof. Tanya Whitehead from USA for the first time. In the meeting, we learned about the APRN consensus model & nursing accreditation system in USA and exchanged ideas on designing our own model for the future of Hong Kong.

Prof. Whitehead had dinner meeting with local leaders in critical care nursing in another occasion in April 2009.

On 10 October 2009, nurses from various specialties gathered together to discuss the issues about categorization of colleges in the future Academy of Nursing.

In Prof. Whitehead's second visit to Hong Kong last December, series of open workshop were held on college certificate examination setting, programme development & evaluation and accreditation application procedures. Dr. CH Leong and Prof. Raymond Liang, President of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine also joined us for the farewell dinner before Prof. Whitehead left Hong Kong.

Prof. Whitehead concluded her December trip to Hong Kong with representatives from various local nursing organizations in a wrap-up meeting. Timetable for establishment of the HKAN was outlined in that meeting.
